Paradigm Shifting: A paradigm is a belief system. We assume our belief systems are logical and factually based, but they are actually a collection of assumptions and values accumulated throughout the life span, and quite subjective. For example, if you believe that the audience has come to hear your speech with the purpose of picking out your defects, and imposing impossibly high standards on the quality of your speech, that paradigm will cause you to experience performance anxiety.
Though many of Nancy’s executive coaching clients subscribe to the above paradigm for themselves, not one of them has ever admitted to imposing that belief system on others. They readily admit that the main reason for attending a speech or presentation is to receive new learning or information, not to pick apart the presenter. The mission, therefore, is simply to make that contribution. Otherwise stated: “It’s not about you!”
Shifting to this paradigm of contributing knowledge and information changes the speaker’s role. Now you are there to deliver something of value, not to be judged on the excellence of your delivery. Quite paradoxically, this alignment with the importance of the task often boosts clients’ sense of purpose and even enthusiasm for the mission – qualities that enhance the transmission of information.
Discovering your unique communication style. Another paradigm is about authenticity. Being yourself is always easier than trying to be someone else, and it works a lot better too. Through Nancy’s coaching, you will be able to develop your own most natural style of self expression. Continuing to grow and enhance your unique style will ultimately lead you to your personal peak performances. With an approach based on your core values and self direction, Nancy can help you to create a renewed vision for your future – maybe one you’ve had before, but didn’t dare to follow.
