The Importance of Pre Programming your mind.
Many people ask Nancy for tips and techniques they can use to relax and feel more confident while speaking or performing, hoping for some trick they can use on the spot. Yet virtually everyone seems to agree that preparation is of prime importance. And it’s just as true for the mental rehearsal and mental training techniques you will learn. All this needs to be done ahead of time so that when you’re in front of your audience, 100% of your attention can be devoted to the task itself.
The Mental Rehearsal Techniques that Nancy Cetlin has developed are among the most important tools you will master in the coaching process. These include beginning exercises in which you will learn to turn problematic distractions during speaking into cues for re focusing and other positive solutions to potential “glitches.” You will then progress to higher levels of mental rehearsal, eventually learning to imagine yourself performing competently and in an ideal performance state throughout whole speeches and other performances.
Mental rehearsal can enhance and "install" positive programming for future tasks, challenges and performances. It can greatly solidify your preparation phase, with its extensive pre-programming capabilities. It will help build confidence, increase your enthusiasm for your subject, and put you into an interactive mode instead of a lecturing approach, which will be facilitative for both the audience and you. Mental Training techniques include
- Practicing visualization techniques prepares you to feel more comfortable in future venues, even if you have to imagine them.
- A variety of concentration techniques can improve your ability to stay focused on the task. Concentration meditation, which requires steady focus on something is recommended for everyone, though Heart Rate Variability training can improve concentration as well.
- The Adrenaline Dial is an exercise that can help you to tune in to the “arousal” or agitation level of your body, and to coach yourself to lower or raise arousal depending on the demands of the situation, giving you more physical control.
- Hero Meditation teaches you how to learn from peak performers, first by close observation, and then through several stages of imagining and eventually performing the exact behaviors you have observed.
